Muscles and nerves need magnesium
Magnesium is not only essential for normal muscle function. The mineral is also essential for various body functions. Inadequate magnesium intake can therefore have a different effect on everyone’s bodies.
Magnesium supports energy metabolism by activating enzymes. If this mineral is not sufficiently available, the energy source adenosine triphosphate (ATP) can no longer be optimally used. As a consequence, the energy demand in the muscle cells is no longer guaranteed and this can affect our performance.
Normal nerve function is also influenced by magnesium, because it contributes to the regulation of the stimulus conduction of our nerve cells. If the supply situation is inadequate, the increase in neuronal signals increases, which is why nervousness, for example, can also be an indication of a magnesium deficiency.
You can have your magnesium level determined by a blood sample taken by your doctor.
